John Barker

EVP Head of Global Protein Sciences

Latest update: January 2025

Biography

Meet John Barker

John has over 25-years experience in the field of drug discovery with a focus on structure-based and fragment-based drug design, having worked both as a structural biologist and as a computational chemist. He and his Protein Sciences team work across all therapeutic areas and discovery modalities. John's experience in early drug discovery assists our partners to mature their target portfolio to PDC assets. A particular passion is anti-infective drug discovery, based on previous work in Biotech. prior to Evotec.

John’s current role at Evotec is leading the global the Protein Science teams in Abingdon (UK), Princeton (US), Hamburg (GER) and Toulouse (FR). The global Protein Sciences team, approximately 150 people, enables early Discovery through recombinant proteins (membrane proteins a specialty) and cell line development. As small molecule and biologic programs traverse Hit Finding, Protein Sciences combine with our Integrated Project teams, providing structural insight via X-ray, cryo-EM, HDX and BIOSAXS. Critical and timely experimental structures compliment Evotec's powerful in silico methods, accelerating drug discovery to enhance of our Partner's pipelines.

Tom Gaitanos

Tom Gaitanos

Senior Research Scientist, Chemical Biology

Latest update: January 2025

Biography

Tom Gaitanos is a Senior Scientist in the Chemical Biology team within Evotec’s Proteomics & Metabolomics unit. He is an expert in preclinical drug discovery in the scope of target deconvolution, proteomic cell and tissue profiling, protein-protein interactomics, and PTM profiling. Tom has also been a major player in building Evotec’s Spatial Proteomics facility, and sees great potential for this state-of-the-art technology to provide higher-resolution insights into tissue microenvironments at the proteome level. Tom’s is an experienced cell and molecular biochemist as well as a molecular neurobiologist, and has a broad background in many disease areas. Evotec’s proteomic portfolio also include high-throughput proteomic screening, clinical proteomics - including analyzing biofluid-based samples, high-sensitivity proteomics when sample amounts are greatly limited, as well as MHC-peptidomics. Tom will be happy to discuss any of these technologies with you.
