Dr Ian Ragan

Dr Ian Ragan is an independent scientific consultant. He had nearly 20 years in discovery research with Merck and then with Eli Lilly, where he was head of Neuroscience Research, Europe, and also head of European Scientific Affairs. His area of expertise is early discovery through to proof of concept in Phase IIa across a wide range of neurological and psychiatric diseases. Currently he is Executive Director of the European Brain Council and a Consultant to EFPIA on the Innovative Medicines Initiative with which he was involved since its inception as the Lilly representative to EFPIA’s Research Directors’ Group. Among a diverse range of other activities, he is a Member of the UK Government’s Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs, a trustee of the charity, Autism Speaks, and a Member of the External Advisory Board of Biovail.

Ian Ragan has a first class degree in biochemistry from the University of Cambridge, a PhD from the University of Bristol and pursued an academic career at Cornell University, the State University of New York at Albany, the Scripps Clinic and the University of Southampton before moving to the pharmaceutical sector.
